- The Adobe Swatch Exchange file format unfortunately comes with a few limitations. It's unable to save specific swatch types like tint swatches, gradients, and patterns, which is unfortunate. The main reason for this is because most of these swatch types are very specific to certain design applications, making it impossible for other apps to correctly interpret them. But what is possible is to take a different approach to these limitations if you're intention is to reuse these swatches in the same program from where they originated. I am here inside Adobe Photoshop where I currently have two files open. I have my gift certificate file, and I have my social media post file. Now the idea is very simple. I would like to apply a gradient to this box here and then reuse that gradient here in this file.
