- [Instructor] When you think about color images you probably think of things like RGB or CMYK images or maybe even lab color images if you're getting fancy. But there is another option that most InDesign users don't usually consider. Images can be saved in something called indexed color. For example GIF files or GIF or whatever you want to call them. Those are always saved in index color. Also eight bit ping files as the PNG format. Those are always indexed color. Indexed color images tend to be really small. So they're good for web graphics. But you can place index color images like GIFs or PNGs into InDesign. And InDesign can even print them or export them to PDF. However, if your document is destined for print, I would recommend that you avoid them. You can't really color manage these images properly. And also some print providers can't even print them.
