- [Instructor] It was the author and poet Allen Ginsberg who coined the phrase, "First thought, best thought." It conveys the idea that your first uninhibited attempt at something is going to capture the essence of what you're trying to convey. This isn't the way with logo design. Usually you have to dig deep to get to your solution. Your first thought, or possibly your first several thoughts may be way off target. It doesn't matter, sometimes it's necessary to wade through all those bad ideas to get to the good ones. To harness another literary quote, it was Shakespeare who wrote, "The course of true love "never did run smooth." Logo design is all about iteration. Generate lots of ideas, then narrow them down. Discard the bad ones, explore those with potential, narrow them down some more. Refine and simplify as you go. The road may be bumpy, but with each iteration, your message becomes clearer.
