- [Instructor] This week's Type Tip is about some practical, some commonsensical and some technical advice for working with script typefaces. Firstly, we should consider the classification of script typefaces. There are different types of script faces. Broadly speaking they break down into these three categories. So, consider your message. Secondly, a technical issue. We want to make sure that we are using metrics kerning and not optical kerning as the automatic kerning method. Let's just compare the difference here and down at the bottom I have metrics kerning applied so that the letters connect in a way that you would expect a script face to do but if we use optical kerning, you can see that the letters do not quite connect, so make sure you are using metrics kerning. Next, an obvious and commonsense point, never use all caps with a script typeface. Looks terrible.
