Building effective prototypes

- [Narrator] Building the prototype to meet the needs of what you're going to test is extremely important. Let me give you a real life example of what I mean. Several years ago I created a semi-functional high fidelity prototype for usability testing. Because it was high fidelity, it set the expectation that everything was clickable. And when users went exploring the prototype with their mouse, some of the links didn't work and in some cases, actually showed errors. We had to stop the test because the users were confused on why the links didn't work and why some links led to errors. I had to update the prototype and put it in front of users again. It was a learning lesson for me on how important it is to really think through your prototype and make sure that you're really building it in a way that won't distract from the design or from the outcome you're looking for.
