Creating vegetation styles

- [Instructor] Every commercial and residential project has its own unique landscaping. So for this exercise we're going to learn how to modify a few landscaping coverage areas and 3D objects. So the first thing we're going to do is going to create our own custom landscaping coverage area. So for example, we're going to change this landscape feature area in here to a different type of landscaping. So if you don't want to use the actual coverage styles that come with InfraWorks, you can create your own. So if you go to a certain website you can download the material for sod for that grass, save it as a PNG. We're going to open the styles palette. And then browse to the materials tab. Then terrain tab. And we're going to create a new style for that landscaping feature. So you're going to click the new button at the bottom. And then select texture for type. Click the small selection box to the right. We're going to browse to our dataset. So under datasets, site grading, styles, landscaping. I downloaded a few PNG images. So I'm going to select grass-4 just for this exercise, and hit open. Click OK. You can use the default or change the size of that pattern. So here I'm going to say it's actually six foot by six foot. And click OK. And I'll call this, Grass-3. Then I'll use the drag and drop routine to modify this coverage area. As you can see we now have a new coverage area. You can create a new one. So I'll create one more. Go back to type texture. Going to browse to the other ones, grass-2. Hit open. I'll leave the defaults of 9.8 for the sizes, the height and width. Click OK. Now we'll call this Grass-3. And drag and drop that over my landscape area. There we go. Now you may notice when you create or download a couple of these images, you might see a pattern. So be careful the type of images you download. You always want to download a PNG file. Next thing we're going to do is going to make a small modification to a tree. So some trees you might want to make it look more realistic where some trees are kind of leaning to the left or to the right. You can easily do that within InfraWorks. So I'm going to come in here and create a new style. So go back into the styles palette. Go to 3D model tab. Select vegetation. I'm going to select one of these trees. Let's select this 40-403, dark red tree. And make a copy. So at the bottom, I'll click the copy selection. I'll keep the same name. I'll select that same style again, and click the edit button. Now, you don't have too much modification features within a 3D model tree like this. The only change I'm going to make is the actual rotation. So here I can move this little track ball or I can type in an angle. So I'm going to type in 10 degrees. As you can see it kind of tilted a tree to the left. I'm going to click OK. And if I drag and drop that tree over one of the trees in the model, as you can see it's got a small amount of tilt to that tree. So if you're trying to match exactly a tree that's out in existing condition area, you can actually modify and create your own custom tree to make it look like exactly the tree that's out on the existing property. So with InfraWorks you do have a small capabilities to modify landscape coverage areas and 3D models.
