Importing terrain data
- Terrain data is a key component of your InfraWorks model because it defines the shape of the land that you are proposing to develop. Let's take a look at how to import terrain data to bring your model to life in 3D. I've opened the Chapter 2 Hotel Lynda model, and I've selected the Import_Terrain proposal. I'll also press the home key to set my model to home view. Now if you've done what I've done, we should be looking at the same look on our screen. I do want to point out though, that this model is currently flat even though the aerial imagery is very convincing that we have mountains in the model, when we actually look at the model from the side, we see that it is perfectly flat. There hasn't been any three dimensional aspect added to this model. How do we address that? We need to provide terrain data, and since we're talking about building a model from scratch in this chapter, we need to provide the terrain data. The way we do that is to add it as a data source.
