- When considering a road design one of the key factors will always be cost and earth moving is one of the greatest costs associated with building a road. So what if you could click a magic button and have the earthwork optimized for your design? That's exactly what profile optimization can do. Let's see how it works. I've opened the Lynda Road model and chosen the proposal named optimization. There's no need for me to copy that proposal in this video and you'll see why a little later. I'll pick the Lynda Road bookmark, which will give me a 3D low-angle look at the road. And what I'd like to start off with is taking a look at the profile of this road. I'll click the profile view icon with the road selected and you'll see that the profile's been greatly simplified in this proposal. There are only two PVIs, one at the beginning and one at the end, and the one in the middle has been taken out, so we have a straight line from the beginning to the end.
