Learn how to design a professional-looking Instagram profile from scratch. Having a professional, attractive-looking Instagram profile is one of the first steps in gaining followers.
- [Instructor] When using Instagram for business purposes, it's important to optimize your Instagram profile so that people know who you are and where they can find out more about your organization. To do this, make sure that you're on your own profile page and Instagram. And you can do that by tapping on the silhouette icon in the bottom right of the screen. From our profile page, we can tap on the Edit Profile button to edit all of the information displayed to users on our Instagram profile. On this screen, we have a number of different fields that we can fill out to give people more information about who we are here on Instagram. The first two fields are very similar. The first one called name is for the real name of the person or organization using the account. The second field is the account username. So the first field is your more professional looking name here on Instagram, you can actually put spaces in that field, whereas in the other one you can't. So the first one, go ahead and put your actual organization name or your brand name however you'd like to appear on Instagram. Notice that we have Pixelford Photography. In the second field, you can put a very similar name, but you can't put any spaces. So you may need to use an underscore or just use your organization name without spaces. So you can see for us, again, we have Pixelford Photography in the first field and just pixelford in the second field, it's really important to enter a website in the third field on this page, because we need to give people a place to go outside of Instagram where they can find out more about our brand. So go ahead and enter your website in that field, you can see we have pixelford.com. We also have the opportunity to add a short bio to our Instagram account. So you can see we have New York area photography specializing in capturing and if we tap in capturing special moments indication. So, you can tap to edit it, you'll notice I put a hashtag in the bio that doesn't really do anything in terms of increasing the exposure of our Instagram profile. It just gives users a place where they can tap on the photography hashtag because it's something that we're interested in. So we're kind of showing them that we are using Instagram actively that we're involved with hashtags, and that this is one that's important to us. So go ahead and enter a bio that's fitting for your organization and then tap Done. I really want to stress that this description should be short because people aren't going to read an entire history or a huge mission statement here on Instagram, they're here to look at photos. So short, sweet and to the point is best. You'll notice that we have the Facebook page linked to our Instagram account. And then we also have the category that our account is listed under. We chose the category when we converted our personal Instagram account to a business account. But you can always come in here afterwards, and you can modify the category, or you could change the Facebook page that's linked to your account. In the Contact Options section, we have the option of providing an email address a phone number or a physical address so that people can contact us outside of Instagram. So if I tap on that, you'll notice that right now we only have our email address so people can only email us but if you're the type of business that has a public phone number, go ahead and enter that here. And if you are a brick-and-mortar store location, go ahead and enter your address so people know where they can find you. And then when you're ready, you can go ahead and go back to the Edit Profile page. The private information section at the bottom is for internal use by Instagram. So, don't worry about that section too much. Now, the last thing and probably the most important thing is to add a profile photo to your Instagram account so that people can easily recognize who you are when they see the thumbnail photo next to your comments or your photos. So to do that, we're going to scroll back to the top of the screen, you'll notice that we already have a profile photo. But if we didn't, or if we wanted to change it, we can tap on the button that says Change Profile Photo. When we do that, we have the options to remove the current photo, we can import a photo from Facebook, we can take a new photo, or we can choose a photo that's on our phones library. What I'd recommend here is to actually email yourself a photo of your logo and send it to an email account that you have access to on the device you're using. So most likely your phone then you can go ahead and save that photo to your photos library, head back over to Instagram and then tap on the Choose from Library option here. Notice that Instagram configures their thumbnail photos in a circular fashion, so make sure that you use a logo that will look okay inside of a circle. Now we already have our logo uploaded, so I'm not going to make any changes to that for now. If you do choose a photo, Instagram does give you the option to zoom in or crop the photo to your choosing. So you don't have to do all the editing beforehand if you don't want to. So now that we've added some information to our Instagram profile, we can tap on the Done button in the top right corner of the screen to save this information. When we do that, we're brought back to our Instagram profile. And if you've added any information to your own Instagram profile, you should now see it updated. If you started with a brand new account, and you didn't have a description or a photo, your Instagram account should really be looking a lot more professional now. Users will know who you are and what you do when they access your Instagram profile page.
