Shoot with the camera in Instagram

- [Presenter] Photos and videos you post to Instagram show up in your followers feeds just like the photos and videos from the people you follow show up in your feed. You can share content you've already shot and have stored on your device or you can shoot directly within the Instagram app. Let's start by taking a look at how to shoot in the app itself. Now, regardless of what you're sharing you always start with the add button which is the plus button here at the top of the screen. That takes you to your phone's camera roll where you can browse for photos that you have stored there. Your most recent photo is displayed here at the top but you can also scroll through your camera roll and select other photos. Make sure your post is selected here at the bottom. If you want you can post other types of content from here like story, reels, live and so on but in this case, I'm going to make sure post is selected. And from here, I'll click the camera button and that activates my phone's camera and I can point it at whatever I'm taking a photo of. But I can also tap this button here in the lower right-hand corner to switch to the front-facing camera in case I wanted to take a selfie or a photo like that. But in this case, I'm going to switch back to the rear facing camera. If your device has a built in flash, you can toggle the flash to on or auto or off, I'll leave it off in this case. So now I'll just line up my shot and I'll take my photo with the big white shutter button. And there's my photo. Now, if you're not happy with it, you can tap the back arrow in the upper left hand corner to go back to the camera and try again. If you are happy with it, there are several things you can do from here. You can process the photo using the effects and filters found here at the bottom of the screen and you can tap on a few of these to try them out. These filters are probably what Instagram was most known for when it first came out. I'll talk about working with these filters and applying other effects in a separate movie later though. For now I'm going to scroll back to the left and choose normal to remove any effects. And I'll tap Next, here you can add a caption if you like and this can be any texts that you want. It can be a description of what this photo is, your reason for shooting it or anything else you like or you can just leave the caption blank and let the photos speak for itself. I'll just type a quick caption here. And I will tap Ok. Now below that you can tag people if you know the Instagram names of anyone who happens to be in the photo. I'll talk more about tagging people a little later. Below that you can add your location. The first time you tap this option you may have to allow Instagram access to your location so we can give you a list of places to choose from. So I'll choose allow while using app in this case. Now you can only choose from these existing locations, you can't create custom locations. So I'll select one here, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. And when you add a location, people searching Instagram for these locations may come across your photo. Now, if you want to share your photo not just to your Instagram feed but to any of these other social media sites you can do so just by turning the switches on. So if you have a Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr account, you can tap any combination of those two simultaneously post your photo to those accounts. The first time you do this, you'll have to log into your account which means you have to have an existing account with one of those services before tapping it switch here. So for example, if I wanted to post this to my Facebook account, I would tap the switch and then sign in. My Instagram followers will see this photo on Instagram and my Facebook friends will see it on my Facebook page but the two don't interact in any way. If anyone comments on or likes this photo on Facebook, that comment or like won't show up on Instagram and vice versa. I'm just going to cancel that for now. Now, if you have more than one Instagram account, you'll also see the option here to post your photos to your other accounts as well. And when I'm ready I'll tap Share. My new photo was uploaded and is now live on my feed. I can see it here and also from my profile screen and as we just saw, it's also on my home screen. So now anyone following me will now see this photo on their home screen. So that's how to shoot and post a photo from Instagram. It's also worth mentioning that photos you shoot with Instagram are stored to your phone or tablets camera roll or photos app so you'll always have a copy of them saved to your device. So I can see the photo here in my phone's camera roll. And again, we'll talk more about editing and applying filters to your photos later but for now that's the basics of how to shoot and post in Instagram.
