- So, not that you hopefully have a better idea of the basic concerns of data science and its related fields. What I'm going to do next is I'm going to take you through a few examples of how some companies and industries are currently using data science to improve people's lives, thrown operations, and yes, their profit margins. So the first impossibly most pervasive application of data science is what are usually called Recommender Systems. And we're going to learn more about this later on in the course. But put simply, Recommender Systems take data about some group of people. Whether that's customers on an e-commerce site, viewers on a video site, shoppers in an actual brick and mortar store, and so on.
