- [Instructor] IntelliJ Idea receives frequent updates from JetBrains. Some of these updates are minor changes for bug fixes, while others are major releases. You can check the version number to see whether you're working with a major or a minor release. The version numbers start with the year of the release, and then a major release number, I'm working with 2020.2, and then if there's a point release after that that's a minor update. You can update IntelliJ IDEA in a couple of different ways. If you installed IntelliJ IDEA from the JetBrains's website not using the toolbox application, from the welcome screen you can go to the configure menu, and then choose check for updates at the bottom. Depending on the configuration of your copy of IntelliJ IDEA, you may see an offer to update to a preview release. You can control this by clicking on the configure updates link.
