- [Instructor] Around the same time the new release cadence was publicized, a few other substantial changes were announced by Oracle, regarding JDK support and licensing. These announcements concerned many Java developers, making them question whether Java was still free. Rest assured, Java is still free, thanks to the OpenJDK Project. OpenJDK is an open source project that contains the latest implementation of the Java platform. The project is led by Oracle with participation from other major companies, such as Red Hat and IBM. It is important to understand that OpenJDK is only focused on Java source code, leaving other organizations with the task of building JDK binaries from that source code.
