Making things move: Daisy the Dinosaur

Daisy the Dinosaur is one of the simplest available children's programming apps. It's available only for the iPad. At this point, there isn't a version for Android tablets. It's designed to help very young children learn the simplest of programming concepts. It's completely free and available for download from the app store. When you first open Daisy the Dinosaur, you'll see that there are two modes labeled, free-play and challenge. I'll start in the free-play mode. I'm working on an Ipad mini. If you're working on a full size Ipad, the interface will look slightly different. For example, the list of commands in the upper left corner will display fully. When you first open Daisy the Dinosaur, you'll see three primary regions. The command list on the top left, the program pane on the top right, and the stage at the bottom. On the stage there's a cartoon image of a dinosaur, that's Daisy. The kid's job is to make Daisy move, using commands from the list such as move, turn, grow, shrink…
