When programming gets real
So far, the focus of this course has been on programming in the virtual, computer-based world, with both graphical and code-based programming. But nothing makes programming concrete like seeing your programs being run by real, three-dimensional objects. There's a wonderful satisfaction that comes over every programmer. The first time they succeed in making a series of lights, create a discernible pattern or in making a robot dance. In addition to the fun of making things happen in the real world, working with physical objects opens up the world of programming to the possibility of teamwork. Programming things on tablets or on personal computers can be an isolated, even lonely occupation. But physical objects like robots can be created by teams that include robot designers and robot programmers. And then those teams can compete with other robot and programmer teams.
