The importance of a complete film budget
- Before you can even begin to determine what your crowdfunding goal should be for your film, you'll need to take a hard and thorough look at your budget. You'll need to look at each phase of the filmmaking and crowdfunding process. Pre-production. Your pre-production budget can include everything you need to do before you shoot, like location scouting and fees, costuming, prop creation, story-boarding and rehearsal. Production. Your production budget will include all of the cost for the shoot days themselves; talent and crew salaries, camera, sound, and lighting equipment, catering and travel. Post-production. Include all of your post-production estimates for editing, special effects, sound mixing, ADR, music composition, and a colorist. Through release. Do you plan on submitting your film to festivals? Will you be creating a DCP or preparing your film for online distribution? Include all of those estimated costs for submission and preparation fees in this portion of your budget…
