Align on a collective goal

- If I think I'm building an electric car and you think we're building one with an internal combustion engine, we're both building a car, similar, but it's not the same. So we end up doing wildly different things that don't work together. There's massive frustration. We speak to each other with animosity. I think we're going after one goal and you think we're going after something that sounds the same, but it's a little different. Ultimately, this creates a viscous cycle that all stems back to misalignment on the collective goal. Why does this happen? There are a lot of reasons, but I want to highlight three. Number one, we feel like we generally get the goal, and it shows up on paper, but the details are missing. Second, oftentimes not being aligned requires a difficult conversation, and in my experience, most people avoid those like the plague. Lastly, department or group-specific incentivizing patterns.
