Leading someone with a low EQ (emotional quotient)

- Emotional intelligence or EQ refers to your ability to sense emotions in yourself and in others as they're happening so that you can use them proactively instead of being merely subject to them. So whereas a high EQ person senses tension in the room and tries not to inflame the situation, a low EQ person doesn't sense a problem and just keeps on arguing. Or imagine the high EQ person who can tell when a person is bothered or sad so they give the person a little distance. That's compared to a low EQ person who might not think twice about bothering them. EQ really does vary across people. So when you find yourself in charge of a lower EQ person, what do you do? Start by realizing that even though our personality might give us a particular foundation, EQ can be viewed as a skill you can build or a skill you can teach someone.
