- Things always get in the way of what we want, both at home and at work. The same holds true for collaboration. Run through this scenario with me. You're on a team, your team is supposed to write a report about, I don't know, say, a transition plan to a new file management system for the entire company, including your international offices. You're all excited and energized about the opportunity this project has for the company, your career, your impact on the way your department works, all kinds of things. Then, reality hits, right? The barriers start popping up. Maybe the first barrier is that you already have other things on your plate, and this new project is additional, not a replacement. Then the second barrier is that your global team has a hard time connecting given the different timezones. By the third barrier, we've either rationalized these barriers as reasons for subpar results, or simply give up. And that doesn't bode well for the team morale or organization morale for…
