Shooting with black and white in mind

- When you're shooting for black and white, capture is just as important as it is with color. Fidelity is critical. So you want to make sure that you're really taking full advantage of whatever camera you have with you. So if that's a DSLR or high end point and shoot, make sure first and foremost obviously, that the lens is clean and clear. It's going to be a lot easier to just wipe things off than it is to take out those artifacts later in post processing. Also make sure that you're capturing in RAW if you can. You want the highest fidelity image that you possibly can get. You want to make sure that you expose for the highlights. If you're taking pictures of a landscape, you're not going to be able to recover as much of the information in the highlights so you want to expose for those.
