What is GigaPan?

- If you really get into panoramic photography, you might find yourself picking up a unit from GigaPan. It's actually a system, a piece of hardware and software and you've seen these before online. The ultra high resolution panoramic photos that you can zoom in and explore. It's pretty cool technology. You get these interactive photos that could be distributed through the web, and people can pan around and look for little details and really get immersed. Of course, it's not just about the web. It's about making one of the biggest panoramic photos possible because you use several images to stitch together. Now, to put all this together, we're going to need a couple of pieces, and I'm going to walk you through that right now. Now, Levi Simms is going to help me and-- Thank you, Levi. We're going to take the unit here and mount this, so let's just get that lined up. There we go. Do you mind spinning that tightening down? - [Levi] Sure. - Good. So, we got it nice and firm. I'm using a mounting plate to make it easier. There is a thread on the bottom, but I encourage you to actually use the mounting plate so it stays there. Now, one of the things you want to be careful is don't crank this. It is a motor, so you don't want to start moving things around if it's not powered on. It's a very fine, high-quality motor. So, that's all connected. We've got a stable platform, and there's a bubble level right on top. Now, what I want to make sure is that that bubble level is even, so if necessary, I would adjust it like I would anything else. Make small movements, and then lock that down. Just like a real photo, having the panorama head level is important. It's even more important with the GigaPan because there's that many more pictures inside the panoramic and image.
