What is the Lightroom ecosystem?

- [Instructor] The Lightroom ecosystem is a family of Lightroom applications connected by way of the Lightroom Cloud. A cloud is essentially a server accessible by way of an internet connection. The ecosystem consists of four Lightroom apps plus Lightroom for the Web. Depending on your workflow, you may use one or most of these to organize and edit your photos. Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic are two different applications for your computer. You don't need both. You should choose to use one or the other. There are Lightroom CC Mobile apps for Android or iOS phones and Lightroom CC for iPad tablets. And finally, there is a Lightroom website that provides direct access to the contents of your Lightroom photos. Lightroom CC is a cloud-based application for your Windows or Mac computer. Cloud-based means that your photos live in the cloud. The Lightroom application itself runs on your computer. Photos imported into Lightroom CC get uploaded, stored, and managed in a cloud server. Lightroom Classic is the Adobe Creative Cloud version of the original Lightroom application. It is a desktop-focused computer app that runs on your Windows or Mac computer. A Lightroom Classic catalog connects to the Lightroom ecosystem when Sync to Lightroom CC is turned on. Selective collections become part of the ecosystem by syncing high-res smart previews to the cloud, while the full-resolution photos remain on a local storage drive. Lightroom CC Mobile is available for your iPhone or Android phone. There is also a version for iPad tablets. Lightroom CC Mobile is essentially the same application as Lightroom CC for your computer, but it's built for mobile and it includes a camera component. Full-resolution images imported into Lightroom CC Mobile on your device are uploaded to the cloud ecosystem. Lightroom's mobile camera captures raw DNG files, which are automatically uploaded to the cloud. The contents of your Lightroom Cloud can be viewed with any web browser at lightroom.adobe.com. You will need to log in with your Creative Cloud password to view your photos. With Lightroom on the Web, you can view, organize, share, and edit your photos. You can also customize the settings and display of public photo galleries. Lightroom Web is a good place to troubleshoot questions about what or what not has synced to your Lightroom ecosystem. So that's the big-picture tour of the Lightroom ecosystem. Now let's dig in and take a look at how it all works.
