The value of preserving personal media in the digital age

- [Narrator] Friends, family, events. These are some of the pictures that we cherish most. Now, once upon a time, these pictures lived as snapshots that we would get back in envelopes from a photo lab and we'd pull some out, maybe put 'em in an album and then they'd live in a shoebox underneath the bed and we didn't have to worry about losing them unless we lost the shoebox. This was a time when phones looked like this, right. They didn't look like the phones that we have today, and all they did was make calls. They didn't take pictures. Today's phones, you know, we buy 'em as much for the camera as we do the phone itself, and in fact, you know, these phones have even rivaled cameras. Now, a camera like this, of course, a professional photographer or a serious enthusiast would use but a lot of folks are just taking pictures right here with the phone and they're not really thinking about what happens to those pictures after they take it. They look at it. They share it. They share it with other people, you know and right there on the screen so the same device that you take the picture with, you can view the picture with, and everything is just hunky dory until maybe one day we leave the phone behind on a seat of a taxi or in a friend's car or we don't know where we left it, but it's gone. Now, does that mean that all of our pictures are gone, all of our memories are gone. All the things that we have done over the last couple years, are they gone with the phone? Well, they shouldn't be and there's no reason why they have to be, not this day and age because backing up images, saving images has gotten so much better, so much better. So, even though we don't have that safe and secure shoebox under the bed anymore, we do have automated systems and we have technology to help us protect our memories, and that's what we're going to be talking about. We're going to be talking about on a personal level, on a professional level, on an enthusiast level, how do we organize all these pictures? How do we back them up, and how do we archive them, and then how do we find them again later on so that we can share them, enjoy them, and pass them on to future generations? That is the exciting part that we have today. We have these wonderful devices that allow us to take these great pictures. Let's hang on to 'em. Let's organize 'em, and let's make sure that we don't lose a single one of them.
