Adopt a growth mindset

- [Instructor] Now, the previous video wasn't meant to scare you, but to point out how important it is to be a lifelong learner and to continue developing new skills. There is good news, you can do it. I'm confident of that. In fact, don't look at this as an obstacle, look at it as an opportunity. Before you move on, talking about the LinkedIn Learning platform, I want to go over an important point. Intelligence is malleable, meaning that it can change. Not knowing something or not being knowledgeable in a certain area is a temporary obstacle and one that you can overcome. As your brain is learning new things, you actually build new synapses, or connections, that literally change your brain. As you learn more about a topic, more synapses are built, making it easier to learn new things. This is the essence of the growth mindset which is the mindset in which you're confident that if you have the right resources and put forth the right amount of effort that you can improve your intelligence and learn new things. See, many people have a fixed mindset, in which they think that traits like intelligence and talent are fixed and that you either have these qualities or you don't. Well, they're wrong, and that's okay. While people with fixed mindsets are thinking that their intelligence is fixed, I recommend that you take the opportunity to learn, improve, and rise above. If you haven't already read the book, "Mindset," by Carol Dweck, I highly recommend it. Now, back to malleable intelligence. Utilizing the well-founded research around the neural science of learning, we've dove into the website to make sure it's helping you become a better learner. This is an incredibly fascinating area of study, and if you want to explore more in this area, be sure to check out The Neuroscience of Learning course here on LinkedIn Learning.
