From the course: Gaining Skills with LinkedIn Learning

Advance your career

- [Narrator] In today's age, continuing to learn is critical. Not only is learning new skills becoming increasingly important in order to advance in your career, but it's also critically important in order to simply stay relevant in the digital and knowledge-intensive economy. The 2019 McKinsey Global Institute's Future of Work Report warns that the occupational shifts that are taking place right now will require major workforce transitions and the need to acquire new skills. One takeaway that I had from the report is that, yes, the workplace is going to change, but there's still going to be the need for us to do things, and therefore develop new skills. One of the lines from the reports said that "the biggest effect of automation will not necessarily be in sidelining people, but in augmenting what they do." There will be the need for people to do new things, therefore develop new skills. Now the McKinsey Report is focusing on America, but this is true everywhere. In today's workplace, the technology we use to do our jobs, share ideas, or even collaborate with our colleagues, is constantly evolving. And whether we adapt, learn and grow, is a key indicator of our career success. One of my favorite quotes is by Eric Hoffer. And it says, "in a world of change, the learners shall inherit the Earth, while the learned find themselves perfectly suited for a world that no longer exists." This is where tools like LinkedIn Learning are so powerful. LinkedIn Learning helps you to stay ahead in your industry by suggesting courses popular with other people who have similar job titles, and they allow you to access thousands of courses taught by industry experts on a wide variety of topics. Also, new courses are being released each week in order to stay relevant and provide up to date, on demand, watch from anywhere, anytime professional development. Now with that said, the ball's in your court. How willing are you to continue learning? Your success may depend on it more than you think.
