Control the speed of learning

- [Instructor] Another aspect of customized learning is understanding we all learn at different speeds and oftentimes it depends on the situation. There may be times that you're trying to refresh your knowledge or just familiarize yourself with a new topic. In these cases, you can likely consume the content at a quicker pace. At other times, such as learning to write code, you may want to slow the learning down so that you have time to follow along in order to go through each process. In this video, let's take a quick look at how we can customize the playback speed of your LinkedIn learning videos. So here I'm inside of the course "Influencing Others" and I'm in the first video. Now, I'm going to go ahead and push play and we can hear what this sounds like. - Despite our best intentions, many of our influence attempts fail before we really begin. - [Instructor] Now, I'm going to go ahead over here to the right and click on this icon that says 1x and I'm going to change the speed to 1.5x. I'll click play. - [Man] Odds are you had good intentions. You had facts to support your point of view. - [Instructor] I'll go ahead and change this to 2x. - [Man] Maybe you even set deadlines or offer rewards or. - [Instructor] Now that last one seemed a little fast but you can find what works best for you, depending on what the authors speaking speed is and so on. Now in case you missed those steps, there's an icon down here next to closed captions. If I click on that, I can change the playback speed, and you can even go to lower than 1x. So if you want a video to be slower, you can slow that down. And you'll notice that the author's voice didn't change much because of the technology that's used. It just went faster when I increased that speed. For most courses, I like to watch them at about 1.5x. However, I'll pause the video often to take notes or to back up and rewatch a section or to follow along and apply what I'm learning. If you're able to watch a course at 1.5 or 1.75x, you'll have an opportunity to move through the learning content a lot quicker, and then slow down the course when the learning becomes more complicated or when you want to follow along so that you can make the learning stick.
