Determine where to start

- [Instructor] Before you begin learning, it's important to determine your level of understanding with regards to the topic that you're learning about. For example, if I'm a seasoned web designer and I want to learn WordPress development, when I start diving in to courses, terms like HTML and CSS are going to be very familiar to me. I'm going to recognize these terms and be able to only focus on the new information that I'm seeking. On the other hand, if I've never made a website in my life, and I dove in to WordPress development courses, I'm going to have a steeper learning curve and I'll need to gain some foundational knowledge of web design. In both these situations, I can learn to become a WordPress developer, but the journey I take to get there is going to look a lot different. For example, I might want to check out a course like Introduction to Web Design and Development as a first step if I don't have much experience in this field. Now, LinkedIn Learning is designed to help you move through these stages. On the left, when searching for courses, you have the ability to use the advanced filters. Over here, one of the most important ones in this situation will be level. You can determine if you want to watch beginner, intermediate or advanced level courses. In this case I'll click beginner and it will filter it down to those courses. Now another tool that you can use, when you set out to learn a big goal, let's say like WordPress development, is that you can save certain courses that you eventually want to take, and in fact you can group them together in a collection. Let's take a look at how to do that. Right now, I want to start out with this Introduction to Web Design and Development course. I'll click here to save it, and when I do that, it says save to collection and I can add it to a collection. Now when I click here, I don't yet have any collections, but I can create one. I'll click on plus and create one that's going to say WordPress Development 'cause that's my end goal that I am working towards. Now I can put a description down here, but I'll click on create and I've now added that course into that collection. Now let's say next I want to take the HTML essential training so I know more about HTML. I'll click save, I'll add that to a collection and add it to that WordPress development course. Now I may even begin to look at some of the more advanced ones. In fact, maybe I go back here to WordPress development, and when I do, I can go and save some of the more difficult courses that I eventually want to attain. So here I have a collection of courses that I can navigate through to eventually arrive at the skill that I'm trying to learn. Take advantage of these features and learn the way that works best for you.
