Can a job find you?

- [Instructor] In this course, I'm going to be focusing on how you can actively find a job on LinkedIn. But before we do that, I want to mention an important point and that is not only can you find a job on LinkedIn but a job on LinkedIn can find you. Something we shouldn't lose sight of is that another major use of LinkedIn is by recruiters and hiring managers. In fact, there are over 1.9 million talent professionals actively using LinkedIn. When doing this, they're typically using LinkedIn Recruiter which is a paid premium subscription. Now I happen to have a recruiter subscription on my account and I think that it would be beneficial to take a little sneak peek inside of Recruiter to see what they're using to find candidates. Up in the top right, I'm going to click on Recruiter to access my Recruiter subscription. Now this brings me to my Recruiter dashboard and up at the top, I can click in the search bar and then start doing a new recruiter search. When doing this, I need to enter variables over in the left-hand side. If I'm a recruiter right now perhaps I enter in the job title. So here I'll put in sales manager and select that and you can see that this has narrowed it down to 8 million results. So we still need to narrow this down a little further and that's by entering in more variables. So over here, I'm going to put in location and this is the San Francisco Bay area. I'll select that and we're down to 59,000 results. Now we also want someone who's open to remote work so I'm going to select this and when I do notice that we go down to 4,000, so there were a lot of people there that were not open to remote work. Now, when I scroll down there are other things here such as keywords. One up above is skills and assessments. This is an important one. So for instance, maybe we needed someone who has a skill of www.salesforce.com I'll enter that in and we're down to 1,100. Now for this position, we also decided that we wanted to have someone who has the word leadership in their profile, who has an emphasis on leadership. So under keywords, I'm going to type in leadership. When I do this and hit return it brings us down to 966 results. So we have narrowed that down pretty far. Now on the left-hand side, look at some of these other filters that they have access to things like employment type, seniority and then you can click on advanced search and be ready for this here. I'll click on it and these are all the filters that they can use to find candidates. Now, the important point here that I want to emphasize is that when you optimize your LinkedIn profile so it looks good when you're applying for jobs, also make sure that you're making it discoverable so that recruiters can find your profile and bring opportunities to you. This involves doing things like adding skills, having a strong summary including the right keywords, things we'll look at in an upcoming chapter.
