You have the ability to control what the public can see on your LinkedIn profile. In this video, learn how to customize your public profile.
- [Instructor] Now that we've set up our LinkedIn account and profile, let's take a look at how to configure our public profile. When someone searches for you on Google, often one of the first things that they'll come across is your public LinkedIn profile. Now, even if they're not logged into LinkedIn, they will be able to view your public profile, unless you turn it off. Now I'm not advising you to turn it off. I actually think it's a good thing that it helps people to find you. You do, however, have the ability to customize what you want to appear on your public profile, so let's take a look at how to configure it. On Julie's page right now in the top right, you can see that it says, edit public profile and URL. I'm going to click on this. And on the left, it says public profile settings. You can see here that this is what the public profile looks like. I scroll down, I can see the about section, her experience, education, and that's what we've added so far. Now, maybe she doesn't want to share her public profile, so on the right where it says your public profile's visibility, you could turn that off and then nothing would appear. I'm going to turn mine back on, however, and if you scroll down here, you'll see that you have the ability to customize this. So maybe there's only specific things that you want to show. for your profile photo, you can say only first degree connections, your network, all LinkedIn members or the public, so if you don't care and want that available to the public, you can click on that. Now, background photo, headline, summary. Let's say that I click summary off. You'll notice over here on the left that it then disappears, so you can see what it looks like with the summary off. If I didn't want my experience and education to show up, let's say that I go to current experience, past experience, education. Now I'm not exactly sure why you would do this, but I'm just showing you what will happen when you change this, I'll turn summary back on and it adjusts it on the left. So you can see exactly what it looks like. So I do recommend that you take some time to customize your public profile to fit your specific situation.
