Prepare for your interview

- [Instructor] If everything works out well and the employer's interested in you, you'll hopefully receive an interview. Although reaching the interview step is an accomplishment you're not done yet. In order to give yourself the best chance of doing well in the interview, I highly recommend that you do some research to prepare. There are a few ways that LinkedIn can help out with this. One of them we've talked about and that is looking at company pages. So in here, I'm going to look up the Microsoft company page again, and here I can go to learn more information about them. So, learn about the company, what's their mission and vision? What's important to them? What do they post about? Do they have any big projects going on or recent awards they've received? Knowing this and being able to talk the talk in the interview and show that you know the company is priceless. Next, I recommend researching employees from that company. Remember that you can access the LinkedIn profiles of people who work at this company. I'll click here on that people tab and I can go ahead and sort them based on some criteria. Now, I would look these people up for a couple of reasons. First, to see what type of skillsets people have in the position that you're applying for. Also, to see what employees of this company are posting about. This will help you to gauge the company's culture and glean some insights on what they've been up to and what's important to them. Another thing that can help you prepare even further for your interview is something that I'm excited to show you here and it's a feature called Interview Prep. Now you can access it by going up to the jobs tab, I'll click on this. I'm then going to select more and from the dropdown, select Interview Prep. Now this is a really neat feature and I think is extremely helpful. On the left, they're showing you some common questions that you might be asked in interviews. If I go down here, it's things like, tell me about yourself, what's your greatest strength, what's your greatest weakness, why should we hire you. Now if I click on them, you'll notice that over to the right it gives an overview. For this one it says the interviewer is assessing whether your weakness will get in the way of doing the job. Employers are looking for humility and whether you're committed to learning and growing. So, it's going to give you an explanation of why they're asking this question and what you should glean in that question to give a good response. So you have the ability to look at these different questions and even practice them and get feedback. So over here, if I click on practice and get feedback, I can choose if I want to record a video, or write a response. Now, when you record a video, you're even able to get artificial intelligence powered feedback on the delivery of your answer. It will give you things like words per minute or if you used filler words, so this can be extremely helpful. You also have the ability, once you create an answer, whether it's a video or a written one, to share it with any first level connections. So you could share it with your connections and see if they have feedback as to your answer or how you deliver it. Now, finally, on the left I want to point out one other thing. These are some common interview questions here, but if you click on categories, there are even more categories. If you have a specific one, for instance here, project manager, I'll click on that. And it's going to give you some interview questions relevant to specifically project managers. This information is priceless and I recommend taking advantage of this feature. And there is one way you can improve this feature with LinkedIn Premium and that is by getting access to some sample answers that have been given expert feedback. But whether you have this or not, this is an extremely powerful tool that I recommend taking advantage of.
