Is a social sharing policy needed?

- [Instructor] I'm not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV. So don't take my word for legal advice and please do your own research. That being said, if you don't have a social media policy and compliance is an issue with your industry, medical, financial, legal, you might consider getting and implementing your own policy. However, if legal compliance is not as much an issue for you, you might consider doing what HubSpot does. HubSpot focuses more on creating a social media culture. In fact, their social media policy is three words, use, good, judgment, that's it. But as simple as that is, it might be harder to enforce than it looks like. I can't tell you how many times I've seen comments on my or other people's posts that were at best unprofessional and at worst grounds for legal engagement. It's easy enough to jump into a person's profile, right from their comment, and then see who they work for and maybe take the next step and notify their employer of their unprofessional conduct. Whether you have a 40 page legal document or a golden rule use, good, judgment type policy, just make sure that your employees know there could be legal consequences to unprofessional behavior on their socials.
