About the LPIC-1 exam

- [Instructor] The Linux Professional Institute created the LPIC-1 certification in 1999 about 10 years after the first Linux kernel was released as an entry level distribution agnostic certification. In 2010, the Linux Professional Institute teamed up with CompTIA and created a combined set of exams. This resulted in two exams, LXO-103 and LXO-104. Exam takers received both certifications if they passed both exams. These exams were retired in October of 2019, so we will not be focusing on them in this course. The new LPIC-1 Version 5 certification goes back to being an independent certification and offered by the Linux Professional Institute. Their certification is not product based and covers tools and technologies from many different distributions including Red Hat, Debian, and SUSE. And unlike the previous certification, is not tied to the CompTIA Linux+ certification. This course covers the new LPIC-1 Version 5, 101 exam which focuses on System Architecture including disk layout and the boot process, kernel modules, and both Debian and Red Hat package managers. It has increased focus on virtualization technologies such as containers and cloud initialization. It still covers file editing, permissions and user management as it has in the past. This course covers Exam 101 only. That exam comprises of 60 questions. And you have 90 minutes to complete them. The exam costs $200 US and the exam can be taken at many Pearson VUE testing centers around the world. This certification is valid for five years. The exam is or will be available in English, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese, Spanish, Italian and French. Now all languages are available at Exam Launch. Check the LPI website for more information on available languages. When you arrive at the Pearson Vue testing center, two forms of ID will be required and no personal items will be allowed in the testing room. You must arrive at the testing center 15 minutes early. And if you're 17 years old or younger, you can take the test but you need to have an adult with proper ID with you. Please keep in mind that the course you are currently taking is a certification prep course and covers the objectives of the exam. It does not provide in-depth training for each objective. If you need more training for the LPIC-1 content matter, we have you covered. For more in-depth LPIC-1 certification training, search from our Linux System Administrator courses in the course library. There are separate courses covering disk systems, networking, scripting and so on. In this course, we'll be using CentOS 7 for a lot of the exam objectives including systemd, disk systems including partitioning and LVM as well as RPM and Yum package management. We'll be using Ubuntu in the videos covering the Debian package manager.
