About SysVinit services
- [Instructor] The Linux Plus certification exam covers the Legacy SysVinit System, as well as system D, which we've already discussed. We will cover SysVinit briefly in slides and will not install a distribution that uses it or have any exercise due to it's age. SysVinit was the init system with AT&T UNIX System V in 1983. System V included a new initialization process. Most commercial unit systems including IMB AIX, HP-UX, and Oracle Solaris are based on System V UNIX. When Linux was created, it used the SysVinit System. Linux continued to use a SysVinit System for about 15 years. Later when SysVinit started to show it's age, Ubuntu developed Upstart and many distributions adopted it. Eventually almost every distribution settled on System D to manage system initialization processes.
