- [Instructor] ACPID stands for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface. ACPI is a standardized interface for power management in PC computers. In the past, Legacy Linux used a service called ACPID that handled power management and battery information. The ACPID service listens to a file in /proc/acpi/event and waits for events to occur. ACPID uses rules in the /etc/acpi/events/ directory and decides which actions should run for which event. There's one file in that directory for each event. The event file has to include two things, an event and a corresponding action. For instance, a file that manages powering down the machine when the power button is pressed might have these two lines. When the power button is pressed, the /etc/acpi/actions/power.sh script is run. That script may call the shutdown command. I mentioned that ACPID was installed by default on Legacy systems.
