Creating a disk image with dd

- [Narrator] Disk images or files that represent the contents of a storage device, like a hard drive or a solid-state drive, are commonly used on Linux systems. When we work with virtual machines, for example, we create or modify disk images representing those machines, boot disks and other storage. Taking an image of a disk can be useful for backup and recovery purposes, and it can also come in handy for troubleshooting as well. We'll also work with images when making custom installers or creating templates to deploy on a fleet of systems. Disk images represent a bit for bit copy of a disk or partition, which is different than what we get when we copy files. Disk images can contain non-file information, things like partition metadata and boot information or the boot sector. Simply copying files from one place to another doesn't replicate this.
