DNS hijacking

- [Instructor] The Domain Name Service or DNS, is used to translate a website name to an IP address. In 2013, the Syrian Electronic Army successfully hacked into an Australian based domain registrar called Melbourne IT. In the first step to achieving a DNS hijacking. Melbourne IT managed the domain registry services for the websites of many global organizations. In this attack the targets of the Syrian group was the New York times website. By hacking into Melbourne IT, the Syrian Electronic Army was able to gain reseller credentials, and using them to send emails to Melbourne IT customers requesting that they change their passwords. This then enabled them to hijack the DNS, and alter the New York times DNS information, to redirect viewers to a Syrian political website. Let's see how we carry out a DNS hijack.
