- [Instructor] You many notice right away that XFCE is a much more basic desktop environment. There's a top bar with application menu, application switcher, workspace switcher, and log-in/log-out menu. Near the bottom of the screen is an application launcher doc with only a few items on it. We see large icons for Show Desktop, Terminal, File Manager, Web Browser, Search, and a menu of personal folders where we can start a terminal or open a file manager. In the top left hand corner we have the application menu, it has common applications, such as, Run Program, Terminal, File Manager, and Categories of other applications. For system configuration, XFCE like Mate, use a separate configuration programs to manage each item, such as theme, mouse pointer, and window behavior, as opposed to having one configuration GUI. If you want to manually run each tool, you can go to Application, Settings to access them. However, like Mate, the XFCE developers have created a launcher GUI to make it…
