Exploring Amazon Linux

- [Presenter] Amazon Linux is based on CentOS and includes a lot of tools that make it optimized for running within Amazon's cloud. Rather than requiring you to install common AWS tools, like the AWS CLI and other development tools, they're baked right into Amazon Linux. You can use Amazon Linux in an EC2 instance on AWS, or you can download an image to work with locally to test your software with Amazon Linux before you deploy it to resources that charge money. To get started with Amazon Linux, I'll create a VM here on my AWS dashboard. I will go through the details, but if you're new to AWS, take a look at AWS Essential Training for Developers. I'm using Amazon Linux, too, which at the time that I'm recording this, is the new version, which comes with five years of support. To start creating my instance, I'll find that one and click select.
