- [Instructor] IRC or Internet Relay Chat is a text-based communication protocol that allows users to chat either directly with each other or with a virtual chat room involving many participants. IRC servers can connect to each other too, allowing broader contact across networks. IRC chat rooms have been popular for decades. And while in many cases, collaboration tools like Slack, Teams, Discord, and dozens of others have taken the place of IRC, they remain in use in some scenarios.
