Exploring Linux Mint

- [Instructor] Linux Mint is a distribution that's based on Ubuntu and therefore on Debian and is designed for easy and friendly desktop use. Mint comes with a lot of multimedia support built in, and it starts out with a desktop environment called Cinnamon which is based on GNOME 3 but which retains some more traditional desktop metaphors. Many of the features and decisions behind Mint are intended to make it a user-friendly operating system suitable for new users and power users alike. Let's spend a few minutes taking a look at this distro. I have Linux Mint 19 installed here in a virtual machine. And after I log in, we can see the Cinnamon desktop. Along the bottom of the screen is the panel. And this icon here in the lower left lets me open up a menu of apps. We'll take a look in there in just a bit. Along the panel here at the bottom, there's a space to have some icons for applications. And this one here is one you can click…
