- [Narrator] Fish or the friendly interactive shell, provides a shell environment with a lot of helpful features for people who are new to using the shell, and for seasoned pros as well. Generally, fish can be installed from you package manager and it's available from fishshell.com as well if you need to download it. I'll install it here on my system. And then after it's installed, we can open it up by typing, fish. I'll clear the screen. The prompt here shows my user name and my systems host name, followed by the current working directory, and a greater than sign. Notice that the path has color. I'll move to another directory, so it's easier to see. Right now on my system, the path is green. If I switch to the root user, the path becomes red, reminding me to be careful.
