- [Instructor] System wide email aliases are stored in the /etc/aliases file and must be managed by the system administrator. This file must be compiled by the newaliases command to create an aliases database before it can be used. We can do this just by running the newaliases command without options. Host space looks into its configuration files to figure out where the aliases file is. However, regular users can forward email of their own by using a .forward file in their home directory. This is their individual email forwarding file. As such, the user doesn't have to be root to configure it. By using a .forward file, the user can forward to a local user or even an outside email address. Take note that this file needs to be readable by the user.
