- [Instructor] All of the software that we've installed so far has been from RPM software repositories. All distributions have their own software repositories which require each distribution to go through the same work creating packages. This is not very efficient. There has been a movement to create one package type that works on all distributions. In true Linux fashion, there have been multiple computing efforts to do this, resulting in not one, but two distribution diagnostic package formats, namely, Snap and Flatpak packages. Snap and Flatpak packages work on all distributions. To show how Snap packages work, let's install a piece of software called HandBrake via a Snap package. HandBrake is a video conversion tool.
