- When a new user is created, their startup files are copied from the slash etc slash skel directory. This is called the Skeleton directory. We can specify a different skeleton directory by using the dash k option when we create a new user. Note that this is only for the initial creation of a user. If you change the files in the etc skel directory after the user is created, it won't update the existing users. Let's take a look at the etc skel directory. Type in cd space slash etc slash S-K-E-L and hit enter. Now let's do a long list showing hidden files. type in ls space dash la and hit enter again. We can see the shell startup files as well as a hidden .mozilla directory. We can add any files we want here and they will be copied to the new user's home directory automatically.
