Preparing a virtual machine

- A virtual environment is a great place to experiment and learn how to operate a Linux distribution. Virtual environments let us keep a guest operating system separate from our host operating system. And we can work with a guest without any risk of actions there making changes to or damaging the host operating system. Throughout this course, I'll be running Debian in a virtual machine using the VirtualBox software available from Oracle. And so I want to take a few minutes to show you how to set that up. For more on VirtualBox, check out my course here on LinkedIn Learning called, Learning VirtualBox. Once we're done setting up the VM, we'll be ready to install Debian. If you plan to install Debian on a physical computer rather than in a VM, I'll talk about that in just a few minutes.
