- [Scott] In a home, an office or a lab it can be useful to allow more than one computer access to a printer. Many printers these days can connect directly to a network and can handle print jobs themselves. But if you have a printer that doesn't offer native networking support or you want to be able to control users access to the printer, you can use Linux to set up a print server which accepts and manages print jobs and communicates them to printers it manages. CUPS is a widely used print server and it offers support for many different printers, in this episode I want to cover the basics of getting a CUPS server up and running. To do that I'll connect remotely to an Ubuntu server which I have a printer plugged into. When I plug my printer into this workstation it just worked and that's not very interesting. So we'll spend some time starting from a clean server install in order to build up what we need. Print server…
