- [Instructor] If we're using a terminal directly, or using a local network connection to work with a shell on a Linux system, things are generally pretty fast, pretty stable and problem-free. But in our increasingly mobile and connected world, sometimes we need to connect to terminals from our phones or from our laptop at the cabin in the mountains. SSH gives us the ability to do this across the internet from pretty much any device that can run an SSH client. When you have a good connection, as many of us are used to, the experience is just like being on the local network with a remote system. But when connectivity across the internet gets a little bit rough, when lag and intermittent problems crop up, things can go badly for a remote connection.
