- [Instructor] Every six months, in April and October, Canonical releases Canonical releases a new version of Ubuntu. a new version of Ubuntu. Every other April release is a longterm support release. It has support for Canonical for five years. In April 2018, Ubuntu 18.04 was released. Codenamed Bionic Beaver, 18.04 represented a huge change in the Ubuntu ecosystem. in the Ubuntu ecosystem. One of the largest changes and one of the most visible changes is that the desktop version of Ubuntu switched from the Unity desktop from the Unity desktop to the GNOME, or GNOME, desktop. to the GNOME or guh-nome desktop.
