Updating the Linux kernel

- [Narrator] To change the default boot kernel we can use a grub to set default command. Now let's take a look at updating the kernel. We'll be doing this with the yum package manager and include overlays for the devel package manager. First lets list our currently installed kernel packages. In a terminal type in sudo space yum space list space installed space kernel dash asterisk and hit enter. The item with the line under it is our current kernel. We can also see that by using the wild card. The list includes the kernel debug, devel, headers and tools packages. On my system the kernel version is three dot 10 dot zero dash 1062 with some minor releases after it. Your version should be newer than this. This means the major version is three, the major revision is 10, the kernel patch version is zero and the Red Hat release is 1062. As with mine, you may have some small numbers after this.
