Using snaps

- [Narrator] Snaps are packages that work across different Linux distributions. Most Linux packages are built for a specific distro or family of distros, but snaps run on top of a tiny installation of Ubuntu Core, regardless of which distribution is running on the system. So software packaged as a snap runs the same on various distros. Snaps are file systems and they're made up of a read-only portion where the software for a given snap runs from and a writable storage area. Software running from a snap is isolated from the rest of the system unless it's specifically given access to an outside resource, and snaps automatically stay up to date. Current versions of Ubunto come with Snapd, which is a demon that runs, updates, and monitors snaps already installed and you can install snapd on other distros as well.
